We're Phunk'd

Phunk'd was a vision conceived in the summer of 2004. It was created in response to frequent complaints by friends, family and acquaintances, who were seeking something different for their social needs. The time had passed from the early clubbing days, and many of today's spots for an older crowd often left people dissatisfied with their rare evening out. This group's needs consist of two major elements. Firstly, events and venues that had a "house party" feel, with a fun, comfortable crowd. A place where the degrees of separation were minimal, and the attitudes were always left at home. Secondly, the opportunity to dance to memorable music spun by top DJs. Nights that provided that old school fix and a classic vibe. Thus, Phunk'd was born... Real People :: Real Music.

Double AA

Double AA loves music plain and simple. He grew up in the early 90s listening to college radio in Toronto. This lead to his lifelong obsession with hip-hop. Friday nights were about hosting MC battles in his neighborhood, and he even DJ'd some of his own high school dances! But hip hop was not his only love. All styles of music, R&B, Classic House, and Old School have greatly influenced his DJ style and selection. A little known fact, he was the biggest Debbie Gibson fan alive! (Only in My Dreams was the joint!)

With Phunk'd he gets to play classics or rare tracks that don't get spun anymore. Tracks from Tribe, EPMD, Bobby Brown, BBD, Madonna, and Janet...that was some real music! "It's a great vibe with our parties", he says, "it's friends with other friends, so we can all be friends"! "I know I'm doing a party I enjoy when the crowd can finish off lines to many of the songs I play, "smack it up, flip it, rub it...".

Double AA has been doing his thing for over a decade. He is a true vinyl collector with one crazy ass vault of records that would make any DJ drool. He's always diggin' in the crates at parties, trying to keep the crowd on its feet by cutting and mixing on the decks. A true old skooler when it comes to DJng, his love for the music truly comes out at the Phunk'd parties.

"I'm a tru master you can check my credentials..."

DJ RA

'Tell your mother, tell your father, send a telegram' I love music so much that I almost failed kindergarten because all I did was sit in the corner listening to the old turntable. I've been been a DJ since classic house was just house, Ice T was a pusher, and nobody believed the hype.

The Phunk'd parties give me a chance to have fun with a couple of phenomenal DJ's that drop those forgotten joints which make the crowd go oooooooooh. The best part about the parties is the crowd. I think we have a very musically knowledgeable crowd that can appreciate a wide range of music and that's what makes it such a wicked time. It’s one of the few times I’m at a club and enjoying the music when I’m not playing. Everyone is there for the same reason, THE MUSIC!

RKS

RKS has been a turntabilist since the early 90s, where his love of the classics started. The beauty of Phunk'd is that the music appeals to the mind, body and soul. It's the tracks we grew up with. It's those timeless songs that invoke past memories and still plays an important role in creating new ones. It's those lyrics on that back in the day track that conjures up memories of that first girlfriend, who had to be decked out in those "bamboo earrings... at least 2 pair". It's that beat that reminds us of those backyard summer bbqs. And of course, it's that hook that made you want to sing and dance 'til the early morn. Those tracks over time helped define who we are and became an important part of our soul. So, what beats a good track? Almost nothing, except sharing it with good people. RKS loves being involved in the Phunk'd parties because of the connection between real music and real people and the magical vibe it creates. So, for all those people who "let their tape rock 'til their tape popped", I salute you.

Keep bangin'...
